Not all of the WWII timeline stuff was 100 accurate, but the propaganda information was very well presentedbrbrI'm glad we get along now I remember when I was a kid (And I'm 29), I would watch DBZ, and various anime shows, and my dad would sort of poke fun at me for it He is a big WWII nerd, just like me, and it's hard to explain, but his grandfather (My great-grandfather) fought in WWII, and had a brother who was killed when his plane was shot down It always seemed like my dad still held this resentment for Japan, in a way that didn't carry over to my generation Maybe it is because he had so much more interaction with the generation that actually fought in the war, I'm sure that is part of it I never felt that same resentment for the wars of our past

It's interesting to look at the other side's propaganda We portrayed them as sneaky, honor-obsessed, primitive monkey-like savages They portrayed us as dumb, drunk, incompetent and demonic Demonic That's a step farther down from just portraying someone as a monkey

Notice that the evil American sailor in the one cartoon is an exact copy from the villain Bluto in the Popeye cartoons, which must have been familiar in Japan before the war

Japanese anime started showing up on American TV around the late 1960s, with Astro Boy, Gigantor and Kimba the White Lion, among others

5:20 That's Bluto, from the Popeye the Sailor cartoons For some reason Japanese animators didn't create their own characters, instead they plagiarized Bluto, Mickey Mouse, Felix the Cat and others from Hollywood short subjects
