Right of line, First a foot brMy first duty station was the grunt camp Horno based on Camp Pendleton with 1/1 First Marine Division 2009- 2012brbrI remember walking into report for the first time and as I walked into the building and saw for the first time the complete battle record and flag for the first Marines And I immediately thought to myself “Damn! The old breed left some mighty big boots to fill”brbrMarines of the Old Breed forged the legacy of the First Marine division that the new Breed or anyone else for that matter Can never surpass, but will always fight to uphold and maintain Semper Fi brothers Comment from : Landon Lacy |

While the narration is reasonably accurate (except for the failure to mention that the '03 Springfield was still the Marine Corps standard shoulder arm and would be until 1943 and that Adm Mikawa commanded the 8th Fleet at Savo Island, not the Fourth), the film depiction is downright poor I don't know if it's budget constraints, poor knowledge of the subject and/or laziness, it took away what would have been a decent documentary Too bad Comment from : lawrence myers |

My father was in the Army they would come in and clean up the mess left by the Marine’s He was joking of course Comment from : Michael Conley |

Lots of errors in this video but still able to mostly enjoy it The 37mm with canister was indeed a formidable weapon Broke the back of many charges by the Japanese Until Army troops showed up, there were no M1's available for the Marines Comment from : kelly Borgman |

It will be 80 years on the 7th August 2022 since the landing of the 1st Division Marines on Guadalcanal I will remember and say a little prayer for those who survived and those who were KIA 🇦🇺 🇺🇸 Comment from : Aussie Downunder |
|
The first model map they showed of Guadalcanal was not the correct model map If you know your Pacific war you will recognise it as TARAWA!!! Silly mistake in the doco 😂😂 Comment from : Aussie Downunder |

My grandfather fought on the island with the 1st Marines as artillery I also used to transport a gentlemen in the ambulance who was a Higgins landing craft driver in the navy who just so happened to drop marines off on the island He struggled with dementia but he always remembered the island I would always have to rebuild my repor with him due to his dementia and well I was in the door quickly when I mentioned Guadalcanal and the 1st marines ;) this was years after my grandfather had passed but used to love transporting him because well he reminded my of my grandfather in that aspect Comment from : Scopes Doped |

Ya all what the history channel is anymore are these fake reality shows Comment from : James Eveland |
|
The Marines DID NOT HAVE M-1 Garandsonly Army units did The Type 99 Japanese rifle was junk The Type 99 was based on the Mauser 1893 cock on closing bolt action with a horrendous safety This documentary does not touch on the fact that the Americans had the wonderful jungle fighting weapon of the Thompson SMG in its various forms nor the BAR squad automatic weapon Plus the Americans advantages in the 1918 heavy and 1919 light Browning belt fed machine guns These weapons were worlds ahead of anything the Japanese had Comment from : rufus blake |
|
Attacking well armed man in a good position with a full frontal attack will almost always end in a disaster It's like Lee at Gettysburg At Guadalcanal the Americans didn't have to go out looking for the Japanese and that was a disaster for the Japanese forces In the one battle of the Pacific that was nearly equal in manpower the Japanese wasted theirs The ridiculousness of fighting to a outdated Bushido code cost a lot of young men their lives Comment from : Boo Kaufman |
|
The individual soldiers of the Japanese army and Navy were incredibly brave but suffered from some of the worst leadership in any sphere of world war II The commanders of their armies you used tactics that were barely adapted from the American civil war There is no point in charging straight ahead into artillery and machine gun fire It seemed as if it was a lesson that they never learned Comment from : Boo Kaufman |

Ok im not sure about calling those samurai charge attack bravery lol running into mortar and machine guns fire with samurai sword, screaming and howling wasn't very smart was it? And they also never learned their lesson, coz the attack failed miserably numerous times and they still kept coming with the same plan of attack That isn't smart that just plain stupidity That would only work if they really did or number the opposition and only if it was a surprise attack from a close range Which is not possible due to the shelling from this shops and air support Humperizer humperizing Comment from : I hia O look i hia too |

At the stage of the war US Marines were armed with the Model 1903 Springfield RiflebrGenerally speaking the US Army were the first users of the M1 Garand Rifle until about 1943, when there were enough M1 Rifles to go aroundbrAt that time the Springfield 1903 Rifles were withdrawn from front line service(The biggest exception was the Model 1903 rifles that were turned into sniper rifles with the addition of a Unertil scope)The remainder were used by support units or given away to allies, such as Free French Forces Comment from : MrRexdale71 |

My father was at Guadalcanal with the 1st Marine Division This documentary has many historical inaccuracies, including the type of landing craft, the primary rifle of the infantryman to name two For accuracy of equipment, watch Victory at Sea, Guadalcanal - Episode 6 In the films from that show, you can see the correct equipment - rifles - M1903 Springfield Rifle, Caliber 30 and landing craft - the Higgins Boat made in Mississippi Comment from : 360S0D |
