hello Dave love your videos, thanks for sharing all the different aspects of an english teacher in japan I'm a graduate student in English litterature and linguistics I plan to go to a teacher s college ( MA in education), to teach as a licensed high school teacher here in Switzerland, but would love to teach in japan for 6 months or a year before that I currently teach english as a replacement teacher on call at middle schools and high schools How much experience do I need before coming over? ( I am a british national, english is my mother tongue although i " look" indian) How much in advance should I start looking for a job (6 months or rather 2-3 months? )

Dave, If i get a bachelors degree from a university/college such as ITT Tech where its accelerated learning, where it takes maybe 3 or 3 and a half years of schooling instead of four, would i still be able to search for said job such as interac?
Comment from : SylvesterTheCat

K Chazz
Dave, I haven't been to the University would this be a problem for me if I would like to search a job at Interac?

Arthur Sperotto
Thank you again for another great video, Dave! Would you say getting a TESL in your home country before everything, before even starting the process is in any way better than doing what you are doing, which is taking it while already in Japan?

I love that intro song Best on YouTube

This advise was exactly what I needed, because that's what I do I overthink I'm really having a hard time trying not to do that, but at least now I am reminded that the struggle with my nerves is worth it More power to you, Dave

I certainly agree that getting the TESOL certification is helpful I just recently completed mine at the university where I'll be finishing up my bachelors degree in another month I ended up taking a variety of useful courses to get the certification like: 2 courses on teaching methodology, second language acquisition, curriculum design, assessment, grammar teaching, and cultural understanding/sensitivity On top of those, I completed a 70 hour teaching portfolio I have only taught for 6 months in a community ESL classroom to complete my certificate, but I can say for certain that I feel much more confident in calling myself a teacher than I did before pursuing the certification I'll be headed to Japan this summer following the completion of my degree completely worry free of my qualifications

I'm one of the people guilty for freaking out! Heck I still freak out, but it's only natural To be fair, freaking out isn't necessarily a bad thing if you want to do well Overthinking things is definitely not healthy, but it's nice to know people want to be competent and do well at teaching english in Japan

DrZark
Great video, I could never see my self as a teacher hence I am just going to do what I know already Still got about a year or two here in the states before I make the jump from my original planned five years Keep up the good videos they give me a lot of info that is helping me prepair my self for what is ahead once I move

Meggie Kay
"What is necessary is that you chill out" I think that's just good advice for life in general I'm a little nervous as get ready for my move to Japan but when I'm asked if I have any concerns the answer is, "Not really" Then again, I have a TEFL certificate and Japan will be the 5th time I moved abroad I think I'm about as prepared as I could be :P

Beware the Lily of the Valley
Near the end of the video, it recommends another video for us to watch (which I've seen in the past) which is the "Japanese Apartment Tour" video from when you used to have a roommate :) Perhapsit should be updated to the new apartment? Or, are you keeping it as that one to show the before and that way people can see how much your life there has changed?

dave i love your videos but after watching a few jvloggers there's something thats been bugging me a bit and i dont even dare to ask the other jvloggers for the simple reason they might just give a troll answerbrI get the feeling that moving to japan seems like a downgrade (smaller apartment, cars that are meh, having to put up with being the "foreign " , meaningless friendships as japanese are extremely close minded and keep to themseves)mind you i dont speak from experience but i have a lot of free time and watched a bunch of videos from different jvloggersbrI'd love to hear your opninion about itbrkeep up the good work :)

Letters from Japan
Sage advice When I did JET many eons ago, many other ALTs (most?) in my ken didn't have any real teaching experience As long as you don't mind getting up in front of people, you'll do fine

TheBaldr
I've been teaching since I was 15 as a summer camp councilor up to last year teaching at Harvard University as a Game Programming(Minecraft Modding) Instructor If you know your subject matter, which, English you should know, then it very easy Sound like you don't even have to do extensive lesson plans for these types of jobs The only hard part of teaching is when you don't know the subject that well, and that is not going to apply to most positions
