This person is totally clueless That sword is a Tachi They're normally displayed individually on a single stand usually in an upright position on the Saya Ishizukikanamono (scabbard end cap) although I have seen them displayed standing upright but resting on the Kashiri ("pommel") Ignore this video as they obviously have no idea what they're on about How stupid they are to post a vid without doing any form of research Smh Comment from : ᚾᚨᚦᚨᚾ: |

There are multiple "correct" ways to display a katana For instance, if your demeanor towards the katana is more as a weapon than a display piece, the tsuka should point to your right when viewing it, so it's easily grabbed with the left hand and can be put into action More of a display piece? Tsuka points left, which also puts your guests (who know customary Japanese etiquette) more at ease If your country is in an active state of war or conflict, the sword should be displayed on a 2 tier stand, tsuka facing right again, unsheathed Katana on top tier, saya on lower tier It's instantly accessible (to slay any enemy that may show up on your doorstep) and shows you have a warrior mindset in times of war Vertical stands are also acceptable, but are primarily reserved for longer weapons such as a nodachi, odachi, or various polearms like a naginata Hope this helps Comment from : Baker Boy |

She has no idea how to open a Japanese sword and that's not a katana it is a tachi lol Comment from : John Doe |
Hi, this a Tachi It was typically made to hang from the hip while on horseback It hangs down so you can pull and cut in a downward fashion It is also displayed the same way A katan is a different type of sword that would have commonly been displayed blade up This was because it was typically worn blade up at the hip It was more commonly used while walking It is also a more modern style sword worn most commonly during the Edo period of Japan So basically wrong sword name and wrong display style Good attempt though Comment from : 3AmberScorpions |

Enthusiastic presenter with limited knowledge She never covered the orientation of how the sword should be hung -- When you trust your visitors - the tsuka (handle) is to the left When you don't trust your visitors - the tsuka is to the right brbrBTW - In Japan it is considered to be tacky and crude to hang or display a sword in your home (purely for decoration) since only samurai had swords and not the general population Comment from : FlipFlops |
One hand on the main part of the sword? It's a bloody scabbard, not a sword The sword is the steel bit inside the scabbard! Comment from : Alan Rowley |
I think Ill go ahead and get me one! Comment from : lonewolferton |

Come on guys let's take it easy on the girl, of course I understand completely how you guys feel, but it's not her fault she does not know, she got the wrong info from some wherebrShe doesn't claim to be a sword expert nor any high 'menkyo kaiden' level from any koryu artbrbr Comment from : John D Mob |
Fail Thats a Tachi NOT a katana You do not HANG a tachi as you explained EVER the part of the scabbard you showed for hanging the sword on the wall is used to suspend the sword from obi of the yoroi (armor), Tachi were most often displayed VERTICALLY on a stand called tachikake Later when the katana REPLACED the tachi swords were displayed horizontally on katanakake I could keep going but in short you have no business making a video on a subject you clearly have no knowledge of Whoever taught you this misinformation is clearly a fraud Comment from : Don Gaffney |
Also, the Samurai's sword blades were actually thicker and sturdier the closer they were to the hilt, they were just usually sharper near the tip, so your explanation was flawed there as well! Comment from : NinjanoSeishin |
Lady, you have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about! Yes, what you have is a "Replica" of a Samurai sword, but it is not a "Replica" of a Katana It is a "Replica" of a Tachi, which was also a sword used by the Samurai Ok, listen really close now, because this may be a bit complicated for you, but a Katana was used for fighting on foot, and a Tachi was used for fighting on horseback, and was "Hung" from the Samurai's armor, with the blade facing "Down"!
