an interesting look into the sentiments of the past but counter factual at times and a general white wash of MacArthur WPO3 called for a rapid if not immediate staged withdrawal to Bataan It was MacArthur who decided on a forward defense of an experiences enemy (Japan had been fighting the Chinese war for at least a decade) with inexperienced troops MacArthur knew about the devastation of the FEAF which happened on the first day and ordered the forward deployment anyway When inevitably put into effect WPO3 became a hurried and at time chaotic withdrawal to under prepared positions and a significant amount of supplies where abandoned in forward supply depots designed to support the forward defense, brbrInterestingly MacArthur was just about the only commander on any side to not only survive an early and devastating defeat but to prosper from it, being awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his failure in the Philippines Also interesting is Gen Brereton, FEAF commander, went on to have a successful career away from the Pacific and away from MacArthur Comment from : Robert |

It’s ironic that in WW2 Americans and Filipinos were fighting together to defeat a common enemy but just 50 years prior the US bought and colonized the country after defeating Spain and treated the Filipinos unfairly The Philippine American War is rarely taught in depth in American public schools (for obvious reasons) The history is pretty similar to Japanese colonialism of Korea Many Americans forget about this or are simply unaware and uneducated I’m curious how the American Philippine relation is taught in the Philippines I would like to hear your opinions on this if any Filipinos are reading this Comment from : HM |

I wish these lost parts of history, such as this one, will be included in the education curriculum of kids of this era so that they learn from them and do everything they can to avoid such atrocities from ever happening again I'm afraid to see that the tensions of the year 2022 between Taiwan and China, Ukraine and Russia, China and the US, are hinting at another World War that no one will benefit from Not sure, if the current generation will have the same fortitude to survive a similar war as WWII their mindsets are far from that of the Greatest Generation, priorities are mostly misaligned Sad, truly Comment from : Ginger |

Both my grandfathers survived the war particularly the Japanese Invasion in the Philippines My grandfather from my father’s side joined the resistance as a guerilla fighter alongside a few American soldiers who escaped Bataan to Mindanao out of revenge for his younger brother who was captured and tortured by the Japanese He had to live in the mountains and participated acts of sabotage and skirmishes against the Japanese occupiers in the region He was 16 years old when the war broke and 18 when he joined the resistance Meanwhile, my grandfather on my mother’s side was captured and was forced into slave labor They were forced to build a bridge, and was warned that they will all be killed after So my grandfather and his friend tried to escape by swimming on the river, they eventually found a banca (canoe type of boat) but two japanese soldiers caught them trying to steal the boat They resisted them and my grandfather ended up getting bayoneted in the back Luckily, they were able to paddle away until guerilla and free american soldiers found them They were offered to join the resistance despite his injuries but his friend suffered what we call now as PTSD so he declined and tended to his friend instead Unfortunately his friend was not able to recover from the trauma and suffered mentally later in life while my grandfather also developed lung problems later in life due to his injuries from that day and he was the first of my grandparents to pass away My ww2 veteran grandpa passed away just recently and I have been watching WW2 documentaries, series, videos ever since which I now realize how much they suffered during that time and regret not paying close attention when they both finally had the courage to tell their stories of their experience during the war Comment from : Laila Kelley |
|
My grandfather used to be a sniper in the philippine army (he called himself a sharpshooter) but after the Japanese military occupied the philippines he joined local the guerilla groups, he said he killed a lot of japanese soldiers along with his comrades, everybody was defiant against the japanese He was even captured once but he escaped before being executed and eventually reunited with another group of guerilla fightersbrbrHe continued fighting the japanese until the end of the war Comment from : SCODI OFFICER:001 |

When The Japanese Empire was Invaded the PhilippinesThe Philippines was a colony of mighty America Comment from : MYSTERY |

Propaganda, but NOT History, has led us to believe that the Empire of Japan began its territorial expansion in the 1930s, invading China, creating the puppet state of Manchukuo and provoking the West to take over the Philippine Islands and the entire South East Asia Was this really how events happened? Did Japan invade China and South East Asia? It seems so However, the Propaganda does NOT say that for centuries, all of South East Asia was invaded by Western powers England occupied, India, Burma (Myanmar); Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Nanking, etc France dominated Indochina And Holland, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and of course, also the United States were in South East Asia US, occupied the Philippines since 1898 Well, Thus the panorama in the 30's, the Empire of Japan, when defeating to the Tsarist Russian Empire, it also decided to "Grow" by invading its neighbors In those years, all European nations had colonies in Africa, the Middle East, and America (England, came to occupy almost 1/4 parts of the planet) For its part, the US, in 113 years of existence as a nation in those years, had "Grown" 711 the size of its territory from its original 13 colonies Now is the picture clear? Japan, for its part, had fought on the side of the winners in World War I (1914-1918), and they, the Japanese, were not awarded any "Gain" The western victors of WW I divided the world Japan was excluded Thus, Japan's motives for attacking and expanding as the Europeans and the US did seem clearer Then they, the Japanese, attacked China, which was occupied by 6 western powers They, the Japanese, attacked Hawaii, which in turn, this Island had been occupied and annexed by the US in 1898 In 1900, Hawaii became US territory and Hawaii ceased to be an independent nation after more than 600 years of sovereignty (The US seized the Island of Guam and also 13 Islands of Oceania in 1912) They, the Japanese, attacked Singapore, which was then a colony of England They, the Japanese, attacked the Philippines, which was occupied by the US and whose Governor, Douglas MacArthur, reigned as Emperor Therefore, the Japanese did NOT attack Singapore, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, etc In reality, the Japanese attacked England, France, the US, etc That is, the Japanese attacked the Western powers invading all of Asia That is the verifiable truth But, Propaganda has made us believe that the good guys were us, the US, and that the bad guys were the Japanese… cuz Propaganda has convinced us that the Empire of Japan had no Right to expand and possess Colonies, as the Western powers throughout Asia did (???) Comment from : Salvador Vizcarra |
